We knew this guy was a little off but WTF? L.A. Laker Ron Artest has filed a petition at a Los Angeles Superior Court to have his name legally changed to “Metta World Peace”.
And if you’re wondering, Metta is said to be a Buddhist term for Loving, Kindness, Happiness etc….
According to TMZ, he will have to wait until August before he can officially call himself by his proposed new name Mr. Metta World Peace, because that’s the earliest he can get in front of a judge.
As of now, the Lakers forward has a hearing scheduled for August 26 to make it legal, but according to the documents, anyone wishing to challenge Artest’s name selection can object in writing up until two days before the hearing. So if you don’t like it do something bout it.

Were you unfamiliar with that “Big Meech” guy who Rick Ross thought he was on the song “Blowin’ Money Fast (BMF),” don’t worry, Program Pictures plans to explain who Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and his Black Mafia Family are and what they were all about. The company has acquired the motion picture rights to the story of the Detroit-based drug-trafficking empire created by “Big Meech”, who entered the hip-hop music scene through BMF Entertainment.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Program’s L.T. Hutton will produce with Morgan Creek’s David Robinson. Both are also producing the Tupac Shakur , which will be directed by Antoine Fuqua and starts production later this year.
“We have a passion and enthusiasm in bringing Big Meech’s story to the big screen,” commented Hutton. “We’re working closely with Meech and Tammy Cowins to make sure every aspect of the story is done correctly. Over the upcoming months, we’ll be working on getting a script together so we can begin filming as early as next year.”
Hip-hop star Missy Elliot has revealed she has been quietly suffering with a major autoimmune disease.
In 2008 the Grammy Award winning hit-maker was diagnosed with Graves’ disease – a disorder which affects the thyroid – and she admits the symptoms came on so fast; she almost lost her ability to do everyday things like drive and write.
She tells People magazine, “I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed… I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.”
And after suffering a slew of other side effects, including hair loss and mood swings, Elliot turned to radiation – which ultimately improved her condition.
She adds, “I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
