G.O.O.D. Music Becomes An Official Label Under Island Def Jam

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music has inked an exclusive long-term worldwide label agreement with Island Def Jam Music Group. The first release under the terms of the new agreement is Big Sean’s Finally Famous, cementing the Detroit, Michigan up-and-comer as G.O.O.D. Music’s flagship artist.

“G.O.O.D. Music is an exciting new chapter in the long and successful association of Kanye West and Island Def Jam,” said Barry Weiss, Chairman and COO of Universal Motown Republic Group and IDJMG. “As a recording artist and a producer over the past eight years, there is no one who has made a greater impression on the game than Kanye.  We look forward to working closely with the new and established artists that he will be bringing to G.O.O.D. Music, which is already off to an impressive start with Big Sean.”

Previously, G.O.O.D. Music was described as a “family and like a production company.” Last year, GLC told HipHopDX that “you get a distribution deal and if you’re a G.O.O.D Music artist, then you come out on G.O.O.D Music and the distribution deal.”

Kanye will continue to serve as a core recording artist on Def Jam Records. “Kanye’s genius has been proven time and time again on records and onstage,” said Steve Bartels, President and COO of IDJMG. “He not only pours it out for himself, but he has made the difference with his presence on innumerable projects with other artists who are indebted to him.  Kanye is an integral core member of the IDJ family, and G.O.O.D. Music continues his unselfish tradition of bringing along great new artists to the forefront.”

Ron Artest To Change His Name To “Metta World Peace”

We knew this guy was a little off but WTF?  L.A. Laker Ron Artest has filed a petition at a Los Angeles Superior Court to have his name legally changed to “Metta World Peace”.

And if you’re wondering, Metta is said to be a Buddhist term for Loving, Kindness, Happiness etc….

According to TMZ, he will have to wait until August before he can officially call himself by his proposed new name Mr. Metta World Peace, because that’s the earliest he can get in front of a judge.

As of now, the Lakers forward has a hearing scheduled for August 26 to make it legal, but according to the documents, anyone wishing to challenge Artest’s name selection can object in writing up until two days before the hearing. So if you don’t like it do something bout it.

Of course Ron Ron was a top trending topic on Twitter (Click Here) check out just a few of the jokes below:

Even Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak was asked his thoughts on the name change and perhaps had the best response of them all:

Earlier this year Artest was recently awarded the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award from the NBA for his work with mental health awareness. Artest himself has also become a lovable character, especially for NBA fans, if, for nothing else, than his silly, yet, sometimes bizarre antics. With that in mind, perhaps the name change shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. But “Metta World Peace” ? Really Ron? Really?
As for Artest, or, World Peace, he’s taking all the comments in stride.

Missy Elliott Speaks On Been Battling Graves Disease

Hip-hop star Missy Elliot has revealed she has been quietly suffering with a major autoimmune disease.

In 2008 the Grammy Award winning hit-maker was diagnosed with Graves’ disease – a disorder which affects the thyroid – and she admits the symptoms came on so fast; she almost lost her ability to do everyday things like drive and write.

She tells People magazine, “I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed… I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.”

And after suffering a slew of other side effects, including hair loss and mood swings, Elliot turned to radiation – which ultimately improved her condition.

She adds, “I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
